This gorgeous full slice weighing 441 grams represents NWA 8741 and is both visually stunning as well as scientifically meaningful. Such material is classified as a Mesosiderite-A4, and this astonishing example is from the single mass that was found and is one of the most interesting items in Geoff Notkin's extensive collection. The brecciated meteorite contains both silicates and metallic components, and this offering is incredibly beautiful, with numerous colorful clasts - some relatively larger - throughout the background. A generally understudied variety of meteorite, Mesosiderites are still rather mysterious to the science of meteoritics and definitely represent a most attractive type, as clearly evidenced by this phenomenal slab. Measuring some 8 inches (20 cm) across, this representation is a dramatic display specimen. The pattern of the beautifully formed inclusions, along with their various shapes and sizes, makes this look like a work of abstract art. Both vast sides are appealing on the thin slab, and there is even a tiny hole near the edge.
