Mesosiderites are an understudied variety of meteorites, and there have been less than 150 of the type identified. This unique kind of brecciated Stony-Iron meteorite contains roughly equal amounts of metal and silicates. Meteorites, in general, are rarely made into spheres, and such an orb comprised of this type of meteorite is really uncommon. Weighing 498 grams, this sphere is an inconsistent mix of silvery metal and brownish mineral around the rocky ball. Looking a little like a planetary globe, it is fitting that such a material came from space. Representing NWA 10882, this find from 2016 is classified a Mesosiderite-A2, based on the abundance of plagioclase and basaltic clasts plus pyroxene compositions, with a moderate recrystallization of breccia clasts. This rather unusual sphere measures 2.17 inches (5.5 cm) in diameter.
