Eucrites are the "E" in the Howardite Eucrite Diogenite Group: a loosely knit classification of stony meteorites with no chondrules. Most of them are thought to have originated from the asteroid 4 Vesta. Typically, they represent basaltic rocks from surface lava flows on that parent body. Photos of 4 Vesta show that the asteroid has taken sledge-hammer blows from collisions with similarly sized (300+ miles) in diameter objects, and some of the fragments from those impacts have been captured by Earth's gravity "well," accounting for about 5 percent of all falls known. This one was sawn and then ground on both sides from a complete individual and it shows a complete fusion crust on the edges. The speckled groundmass is crossed by several fine grained areas that appear to represent shear zones or late stage veining emplaced before the mass was fully crystallized and cold. There are a few metallic inclusions and a bit of Iron staining in the vicinity of some of those metallic inclusions.
    Overall Measurements: 3.74 x 2.95 x 0.09 inches (9.5 x 7.5 x 0.24 cm), weighs 39.19 gm (1.38 ozs.)
