NWA 15788 represents a Diogenite variety belonging to the "HED (Howardite-Eucrite-Diogenite) Clan" of meteorites. This grouping is believed to have originated from asteroid 4 Vesta, and, not surprisingly, the type is popular among collectors. This achondrite end cut is a polymict breccia which was found in Northwest Africa in 2022. Weighing 354.3 grams, the example has a rugged, colorful, and elongated exterior in stark contrast to the mysterious, cloudy, and dark gray cut and polished display face. Resembling a fossil horn coral, this piece has a cornucopia shape, with a slight twist at the end, resulting in a makeshift ‘tail' of sorts. This is one sizable meteorite with an impactful appearance and an interesting contrast between the smooth face and bumpy exterior.
