Description
Gascoyne Junction MeteoriteChondrite, H5
Western Australia, Australia - (24° 30'S, 115° 11'E)
Found: 1978
The unknown collection label "B" stickered to this whole stone could easily stand for "beautiful" since this Chondrite, H5, specimen is certainly that. The piece of the Gascoyne Junction weighing 514 grams represents an extremely rare Australian find dating to the late 1970s. Acquired by Geoff Notkin in the 1990s, this particularly attractive example features exceptional color, orientation, and thumbprinting. This spectacular meteorite exhibits a mountainous and rutty texture, as well as a contrasting blend of dark brown and vibrant red hues over its artistic form. The piece sits naturally in multiple orientations. With a total known weight of only 10 kilograms (22 pounds), this sizable offering is extremely significant and simply a glorious representation of a highly collectible stony meteorite from a quite exotic locality.
Measurements: 4.32 x 3.01 x 2.35 inches (10.97 x 7.64 x 5.97 cm), weighs 514.1 grams
Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
