Description

    Seymchan Meteorite Slice
    Pallasite, PMG
    Magadanskaya Oblast, Russia (62° 54'N, 152° 26'E)
    Found: June 1967

One superior advantage of a Meteorite slice is that both sides will often be attractive thus essentially giving a piece two primary faces. That is clearly the case with this thin but solid slice of the Seymchan Meteorite from Russia. Golden-green Olivine crystals, many of which are quite large and impressive, pepper the surface of this artistically shaped example. One surface exhibits a rim banding of metallic grayish-silver which is darker than the main body of the slice. This is a preparation element designed with aesthetic appeal in mind. Both sides feature a clustered concentration of golden Olivine which is clearly the dominant feature of each face. Beautiful pallasitic slices are not common, so this is a very special offering. A selection of sporadically located crystals are translucent and "glow" when the thin cross section is property backlit. This has a bit of an odd shape with an interesting promontory point.
