Seymchan Meteorite Slice
    Pallasite, PMG
    Magadanskaya Oblast', Russia (62° 54'N, 152° 26'E)
    Found: June 1967

You never know just what you might find in the local creek bed. That's where geologist: F.A. Mednikov found the first Seymchan mass; an event that led to a smaller, second chunk being found a short distance away with a mine-detector. Seymchan is a Main Group Pallasite composed of darkly, transparent Olivine crystals, frozen in a ground-mass of nickel-iron. The metallic network holds the brownish-green Olivine crystals in a grip of iron strong enough to resist the titanic forces encountered by the bolide, as it made its flaming entry into the atmosphere before smashing into the creek bed. That same nickel-iron network produces the wonderfully contrasting appearance that is enhanced by being sawn into a thick slice, before polishing and etching to highlight the contrast even more. An uneven, sable brown vestige of the original "crust" makes up a part of the slice: a nice touch that adds value to the piece. Don't forget your mine-detector the next time you go fishing.
    Overall Measurements: 1.8 x 1.5 x 0.4 inches (4.5 x 3.7 x 1.0 cm), weights 47 gm (1.65 oz.)
    Offered at no reserve.
