Description

    SEYMCHAN METEORITE SLICE
    Pallasite - PMG
    Magadan District, Russia - (62° 54'N, 152° 26'E)

This uniquely shaped slice of the Seymchan meteorite, with is curvy edge is more a sculpture than just a meteorite slice. With a bright luster that literally sparkles in the light, the internal structure of the meteorite is on full display which is the true beneift of cutting these otherwordly specimens. What appears to be an intricate latticework is actually the crystalline pattern of alloys that comprise the meteorite known as the Widmanstätten pattern. The pattern unique to each variety acts as a "fingerprint" of sorts serving as an identifier of specific meteorites. This striking pieces is amazing on both sides, and its consistency is only interrupted by the coloration of a filled fissure towards the end with the protrusion, and is apparent on both sides, but does not impair the stability of the specimen. The unique shape really adds to the appeal of this slice. Incredibly dense, this slice feels much heavier to the touch than expected.
    13.75 x 7.75 x .25 inches (34.93 x 19.69 x .64 cm) and 1791 grams (3.94 pounds). .
