Description
Seymchan Meteorite SlicePallasite - PMG
Hekandue River, Seymchan
Magadan District, Russia
This is a truly massive slice of the Seymchan Pallasite Meteorite, which was first found in a dry river bed in the Madadan District of Russia in June 1967. Of most importance, the Seymchan is considered to be a reasonably stable and fairly rust-resistant Pallasite. This immense 6.16 pound (2.8 kg) example is essentially free of the Olivine crystals often associated with this variety of stony-iron coarse octahedrite. The sheer size of the slice makes it noteworthy, but it is the significant Widmanstätten pattern covering the steely surface that takes the cake. The large fractal lines create geometric patterns all over this big Meteorite slice which is nearly 15 inches (38 cm) long. There are some expected fracture lines and areas of some discoloration which do not seem to affect the integrity of the huge slab. Bigger may not always be the better, but it sure does not hurt with this metallic example. The reverse side is less "etched" and looks to have had some further stabilization. The display face on this impressive piece is rather formidable.
Overall Measurements: 14.49 x 15.71 x 0.22 inches (36.80 x 39.90 x 0.55 cm), weighs 2.8 kg (6.17 lbs.)
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
