Seymchan Meteorite - Complete Slice
    Pallasite - PMG
    Magadan District, Russia

The first two masses of Seymchan were found in a streambed by geologists in the 1960s. Identified as Meteorites, they were named Seymchan after a nearby village in the Magadan district of Siberia-the location of Stalin's infamous gulags. In 2004, additional expeditions to Seymchan resulted in the recovery of additional specimens. Some Seymchan specimens are olivine-rich and some have none at all-and this specimen is an example of the latter. Seymchan Meteorites also contain high levels of iridium, the second densest and most corrosion-resistant element known. This compelling complete slice evidences a choice example of the gorgeous otherworldly crystalline structure of its alloys. Emulating the style of museum presentation, a century ago, the perimeter of the slice was given a high polish.
