Description

    Seymchan End Cut
    Pallasite, PMG
    Magadanskaya Oblast, Russia (62° 54'N, 152° 26'E)
    Found: June 1967

Meteorite end cuts have the added appeal of duality with a polished window surface, as well as a natural exterior. The inherent contrast results in some spectacular and varied specimens which are usually quite heavy due to their unique shape and form. In the case of Pallasites, like this substantial Seymchan piece, the presence of colorful and gemmy Olivine crystals within a metallic structure is tremendously striking. This gorgeous example weighs 9 pounds (4 kg) and has an amazing polished face saturated with golden and gemmy Olivine crystals amid the silvery metal of the Meteorite. One of the most famous of the Russian Meteorites, this unique type of Stony-Iron Meteorite is known for consisting of Peridot-quality crystals. This piece measures over 8.5 inches (21.6 cm) at the widest point on its glassy surface. The reverse is a dark and haunting mottled mountain with a smoky black patina over much of the greenish-gray planet with some rusty orange and, even, crystalline highlights. This solid specimen is exceptionally attractive and an ideal representation of the classic Pallasite. This is a collector Meteorite with a lot of character.
    Overall Measurements: 8.58 x 5.04 x 3.54 inches (21.80 x 12.80 x 9.00 cm), weighs 9 lbs (4.08 kg.)
