Description

Sericho Meteorite Slice - 1,079.3 Grams
Pallasite
Kenya - (1°5'41.16"N, 39°6'8.30"E)
Found: 2016

Discovered in 2016 near the village of Habaswein, south of Sericho, Kenya, the Sericho Meteorite is classified as a pallasite, one of the rarest and most visually striking meteorite types. The find was made by two brothers searching for their camels, who came across several unusually dense stones-later identified as fragments of an ancient stony-iron meteorite. Local herders had long known of the material, with some recalling that the unusual stones had served as landmarks for generations. Today, the Sericho strewnfield extends more than 45 kilometers, and the meteorite is celebrated for its striking composition of gem-quality Olivine (Peridot) crystals suspended within an Iron-Nickel matrix. This polished slice, weighing 1,079.3 grams, displays hundreds of tightly compacted, classic translucent Olivine inclusions characteristic of the finest pallasites, revealing the beauty of extraterrestrial mineralogy in cross-section. A rare and visually captivating specimen, representing one of the most remarkable meteorite discoveries of the 21st century.
Measurements: 13.62 x 8.86 x 0.17 inches (34.60 x 22.50 x 0.43 cm), weighs 1,079.3 grams
