Pallasite, PMG
    Sterley, Texas, USA
    Found: 1950

Plowing your farmland can be a bit on the boring side. You try to keep yourself entertained while harrowing those endless rows, hoping for something to break the monotony. Once in a while; something does. For Troy Ray plowing near Sterley, Texas, that break in the monotony came in the form of a strange rock that turned up while piloting the tractor. It was heavy, and there were odd knobs sticking out all over the thing. It was weird enough for him to haul it to Texas Tech, to see what those boys thought of this find. They thought that it was a meteorite, a stony-Iron siderolite - variety Pallasite at that. Mr. Ray thanked them and went back home carrying his find. Years went by and one evening while the farmer's son was watching TV, a program came on about meteorites and Arizona State University was mentioned as being hot stuff in the meteorite researching field. That spurred the son into action and he brought the thing to ASU, where it was again determined to be a Pallasite: a Pallasite unlike any others, based on its elemental composition and high Fayalite percentages. For lack of a better classification, it was placed in the Pallasite Main Group (PMG). Pallasites are one of the least found of all meteorites and based on structure and chemistry - this one is in a class by itself. 141 grams of the meteorite was deposited as a reference specimen at ASU and from the remainder, thirty slices were sawn, polished and etched on one side, and simply polished on the other. This is the last one of those thirty. It is a complete and undamaged slice of the rarest of the rare. This amazing piece comes with a book and a Certificate of Authenticity.
    Overall Measurements: 3.58 x 1.97 x 0.11 inches (9.1 x 5.0 x 0.29 cm), weighs 45 gm (1.587 ozs.)
    Offered at no reserve.
