    ACHON-UNGR - Ungrouped Achondrite
    Sahara Desert, Algeria

If there was ever a meteorite that looked like a mineral specimen, NWA 6704 is it-and there is no other meteorite that looks remotely like it. The 6704th meteorite to be recovered and classified in the North West African grid of the Sahara, NWA 6704 is ungrouped, which is to say that it does not fit into any group or category of a previously described meteorite. The vast majority of this glittery material has been distributed to museums and private collections. An extraterrestrial igneous rock, NWA 6704 is comprised of small grains of olivine and chromite enclosed within othropyroxene surrounded by large grains of albite (a plagioclase feldspar). With an oxygen isotope composition that plots in the area for exotic acapulcoite-lodranite meteorites, and glimmering chartreuse crystals set against tiny nickel-rich metal and other dark grains, this is an exquisite sample of a highly exotic meteorite. If included in a mineral collection, viewers would never guess its origin or imagine it being the interloper that it is: the most dazzling extraterrestrial mineral specimen known.
    It measures 4 x 3.25 x 1 inches (101 x 83 x 28 mm) and weighs .75 pounds (373.28 grams).
