Imilac Meteorite - Partial Slice of Meteorite with Extraterrestrial Gemstones and Exceptional Provenance
    PAL - Pallasite
    Atacama Desert, Chile

As a result of their beauty, Pallasites are the most sought-after meteorites, and this select example amply reveals why Imilac is among the most coveted. Pallasitic meteorites, which represent just 1% of all meteorites, are likely to have originated from the mantle-core boundary of a planetary body that broke apart during the formation of our solar system (whose remnants are today referred to as the asteroid belt). Imilac occasionally contains, as does this dazzling example, gem-quality Olivine, or Peridot, the birthstone of August. Found in the Atacama Desert in Chile (the highest desert on Earth), the fall site has been thoroughly picked-over. It is now difficult to obtain complete slices of what is inarguably some the most resplendent extraterrestrial material known to exist, and this outstanding example with one edge of fusion crust boasts a special provenance: it originates from the largest Imilac meteorite ever recovered, and it was the centerpiece of the Meteorite Hall at the British Museum of Natural History (now The Natural History Museum).
    Overall Measurements: 3.4 x 1.4 x 0.1 inches (8.6 x 3.6 x 0.3 cm), weighs 44.7 gm (1.57 oz.)
