Glorieta Mountain Meteorite "Spicule"
Pallasite, PMG-an
New Mexico, USA - (35° 36'N, 105° 48'W)
Found: 1884

Weighing 692.6 grams (1.5 pounds), this individual Glorieta Mountain with fusion crust represents an exquisite and extremely rare complete Siderite Spicule. Like other pallasites Brenham and Seymchan, Glorieta Mountain produces both siderites and pallasites from the same fall. The elongated offering is quite colorful with excellent flowing regmaglypts, reddish-orange patina, and fusion crust. The shape makes the piece even more desirable, and this meteorite has the bonus of a Civil War connection, as Glorieta Mountain was also a battle during the New Mexico campaign of the American Civil War. One further note is that fragments of Glorieta Mountain have been found with Civil War relics, which may indicate a more direct connection similar to the Law of Faunal Succession in Paleontology, stating that fossils are the same age as the rocks in which they are found. Could soldiers have witnessed this fall?
Measurements: 6.18 x 2.23 x 1.60 inches (15.70 x 5.67 x 4.07 cm), weighs 692.6 grams

Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
