DescriptionFukang Meteorite Slice
Fukang, Xinjiang Uygur Province, China - (44° 26'N, 87° 38'E)
Out of the numerous pallasite meteorites, a few stand out for aesthetic appeal, stability and rarity. A top variety is the Fukang, which has long been very popular among serious collectors. This truly outstanding example is large, impressive and exquisite representing a size rarely encountered anymore. Weighing an amazing 222 grams, this spectacular slab is beyond dramatic, with gemmy golden-green Olivine crystals covering a majority of the shiny metallic surfaces. One side features an etched, silvery-gray background displaying the crystallization, while the other exhibits a mirrored silver surface free of pattern. The irregular shape boasts three straight edges and one natural undulating rim. This is an extremely collectible, rather superlative example of an important pallasite. This meteorite slice was discovered in China and first found in 2000.
