ESQUEL - SLICE OF A GEMMY METEORITE
Stony-Iron Pallasite.
Chubut, Argentina.
Known to many as the finest pallasite meteorite in the world; the Esquel meteorite was discovered by a farmer digging a water tank in 1951 near the town of Esquel, Argentina. The meteorite possesses gem quality yellow-green olivine crystals imbedded in silver-colored nickel-iron. The present example is a 20.9 gram polished and squared slice of the Esquel meteorite; it features several olivine crystals of both yellowish and green colors in a sea of mirror-like iron-nickel. This fine specimen of the most desired pallasite measures 2 x 1 1/8 inches and comes with a brass calliper stand.
