Esquel - Large Partial Slice of one of the Most Beautiful Meteorites in the World
    Pallasite - PAL
    Chubut, Argentina

Pallasites are among the most aesthetically dazzling meteorites, and, like Imilac, Esquel is among the most coveted. Esquel's crystals were not heavily shocked as those of Imilac, and, as a result, it has highly translucent forest-green to amber Olivine crystals. The crystals are the result of small chunks of stony mantle melting and then becoming suspended in molten nickel-iron which slowly cooled and crystallized over a million years in the vacuum of outer space. This specimen also contains facet-grade Olivine, or Peridot, (the birthstone of August).
With one edge of fusion crust, this superior partial slice embodies Esquel's most exquisite qualities, and it would prove difficult to find a more alluring meteorite. Indeed, small specimens of Esquel were the first Pallasite material to be utilized in contemporary jewelry. It is worth noting that the giant complete slice of Esquel on display at the American Museum of Natural History's Rose Center for Earth & Space has a Macovich Collection provenance-as does this estimable partial slice.
    Overall Measurements: 4.7 x 3.0 x 0.1 inches (12.0 x 7.8 x 0.3 cm), weighs 92.8 gm (3.27 oz.)
