Description

    Brahin Meteorite Slice
    Stony Iron, Pallasite PMG
    Ljady, Bragin District, Byelorussia
    Found:1968

Brahin is one of the world's oldest known Pallasites and was first discovered in 1810. This slice comes from a mass found more recently, around the year 2000, by Russian meteorite hunters. When cut and polished, the mass produced exceptionally fine slices, extraordinarily rich in Olivine (Peridot) crystals.
Pallasites are believed to form at the core-mantle boundary in large asteroids with molten cores and typically consists of about 50% Nickel-Iron and 50% Olivine. These slices have the highest percentage of Olivine we've seen in full slices. Many Brahin masses have weathered significantly, and the crystals have deteriorated, altering the crystal color to yellow or orange. This mass, found at significant depth, experienced very little weathering, and its crystals retain a lush, "sea-green" hue. This slice has been cut thin and expertly prepared by one of the world's top laboratories to reveal maximum color, clarity, and translucency. One of the most beautiful Pallasite slices Aerolite Meteorites has seen in some 20 years.
    Overall Measurements: 7.24 x 5.24 x 0.11 inches (18.40 x 13.30 x 0.27 cm), weighs 205.3 gm (7.24 oz.)
