Description

    Brahin Meteorite Slice
    Stony Iron, Pallasite PMG
    Ljady, Bragin District, Byelorussia
    Found:1968

As any media savvy person knows, Russia has been the target of some explosive meteorite strikes that have captured the public's imagination with visual images of impacts, both recent and ancient. Over the years, many tons of Russian material have been recovered and made available for study. Of the known falls, only a small percentage (1.6-1.8%-worldwide) are of Pallasites. Brahin was Russia's first recorded Pallasite. The first Brahin material was found in 1810, and several other finds have been made since. This rather thick slice, of one of the more recent Brahin discoveries, has been sawn, polished and etched. It shows brownish-gold Olivine crystals surrounded by a reticulated network of silvery, metallic nickel-iron. One edge of the slice displays a rough, irregular surface that is a remnant of the original exterior of the mass, while all other surfaces are finished.
    Overall Measurements: 3.3 x 1.5 x 0.4 inches (8.4 x 3.8 x 1.0 cm), weighs 136 gm (4.79 oz.)
    Offered at no reserve.
