Admire Meteorite Slice
Pallasite, PMG
Kansas, USA - (38° 42'N, 96° 6'W)
Found: 1881

Pallasites are one of the rarest varieties of meteorite, featuring a unique mixture of metallic nickel-iron and gemmy peridot (olivine) crystals. Admire is one of the more popular examples of pallasite and has metal and crystal in roughly equal proportions. The famed pallasite was discovered in Kansas in 1881 when a farmer's plow hit a large mass. Unlike many other pallasites, the Admire contained 'unshocked' crystals, which was quite an unexpected surprise to the scientific community. Most likely formed at the core-mantle boundary of an ancient asteroid, Admire is a rarity among pallasites, which are already less than one percent of all meteorites. The 'unshocked' crystals in Admire can allow for the cutting of veritable "space gems" from the outstanding material. This exquisite large and polished slice weighing 554 grams and measuring nearly 12 inches (30.5 cm) has been stabilized and exhibits a majestic translucency as the light comes through numerous crystals in the slab, giving it a surreal and glorious appearance. This is one superb pallasite slice of a superior variety with a spectacular shape. Both sides of this incomparable slab are incredible, and the coverage of golden brown and green crystals over the metallic surface is intense.
Measurements: 11.73 x 6.69 x 0.17 inches (29.80 x 17.00 x 0.42 cm), weighs 553.9 grams
