    Description

UNIQUE LIBYAN "DESERT GLASS" WITH TWO HOLES This little gem is a golf ball sized piece of Libyan "Desert Glass" which is technically termed a tektite - it is a natural glass made of fused silica. Although named after the Libyan Desert, the discovery locality is actually the Western Desert of Egypt. In the case of tektites, an asteroid impacts the earth whereby terrestrial rocks liquefy due to the associated extreme heat and pressure then get blown back up into the upper atmosphere prior to returning to earth as solidified glass. This excellent example is really impressive in that it contains three holes with some embedded material. It is a soft shade of pale yellow-green which is typical of the material and rather good sized for a piece of a Libyan "Desert Glass" tektite. It comes with a custom metal placard.
    Measurements: 2.9 x 2.1 x .13 inches (7.5 x 5.4 x .32 cm) and 130 grams.
    Offered at no reserve.
