Framed Moldavite in Matrix

This extremely rare, and unusual, Moldavite presentation consists of impact glass suspended in a sandy matrix as found by miners in the Czech Republic and affixed to a frame. The large offering resided in the Aerolite Meteorites office of Geoff Notkin for many years. This piece was important to Notkin as he had only ever seen two such specimens of this nature in his career. One prominent sample of the dark green material is present near the periphery of the rectangular form bordered by a creamy white wood frame. The matrix has layers of hard sand, with the area containing the Moldavite having a more granular aspect, including pebbles surrounding the impactite. Minor surface cracks are visible. The big piece of Moldavite is ringed by a light 'corona' likely due to it having been exposed from the matrix to reveal its bullet form.
Measurements: 19.29 x 15.35 x 1.18 inches (49.00 x 39.00 x 3.00 cm), weighs 1,814 grams
