Description
UNBELIEVABLE GIBEON METEORITE WITH HUGE NATURAL HOLEIron, fine octahedrite - IVA
Great Nama Land, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
The world famous Gibeon meteorite fell in prehistoric times. Since it was first seen by the Nama People of Namibia who used the pieces to make tools and weapons, or at least since it was first collected in 1836 by English Captain J. E. Alexander who had samples tested to confirm the extraterrestrial nature of the material, the Gibeon has captivated meteorite enthusiasts all over the world. From the massive "strewn field" to the beautifulWidmanstätten pattern so apparent in its slices, this meteorite is clearly one of the most prized by both collectors and mere admirers alike. Superlatives are seemingly lacking when describing this phenomenal specimen of the Gibeon meteorite. Impressive for both its fine quality and its immense size, this piece has the huge bonus of having a natural hole right in the center! This specimen has a nice shape and captivating grayish-green color that set it apart in yet other ways from similar examples of this very distinctive meteorite. The surface is replete with regmaglypts, and it is a stunning meteorite viewed from either side. Solid and heavy, this piece is truly a one-of-a-kind specimen. As fine a piece as any collector could desire in this size range, this meteorite is nothing less than very significant. This is truly spectacular.
24.77 x 20.96 x 9.53 cm (9.75 x 8.25 x 3.75 inches) and 10.23 kg (22.5 pounds).
