Silicated Meteorite Slice
Silicated Iron, IAB
Weighing 277 grams, this slice of silicated meteorite is from a
mass that was found by nomads in Algeria. The variety represents
less than one percent of all meteorites and features silicate
inclusions all over the silvery, metallic matrix. The inclusions
are a dark, graphite color, and the two-tone mixture of lighter and
darker hues is quite appealing as a natural contrast. There is a
single prominent and very large inclusion, indicative of metal
being injected into the silicate mass during its formation. This is
a very bold example.
Overall Measurements: 5.91 x 4.78 x 0.15 inches (15.00 x 12.14 x
0.37 cm), weighs 277 grams
Provenance: Central Coast Collection
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
