    Sikhote-Alin Meteorite
    Iron, IIAB
    Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time

This Sikhote-Alin Meteorite represents a complete individual specimen, not just a piece of "shrapnel" so common these days when discussing the famous bolide. This example weighing 428 grams is very highly aesthetic piece with outstanding regmaglypt "thumbprints" covering the entirety of the rugged exterior. A natural hook sticks out from the core piece giving the Space Rock a zoomorphic aspect. The skin of the Meteorite is a dark blackish-brown with lighter brown patina among all the craters, pockets and cavities. This small but significant specimen was once had a tag from the Russian Academy of Science in Moscow.
    Overall Measurements: 3.13 x 2.46 x 1.74 inches (7.95 x 6.25 x 4.41 cm), weighs 428 grams

Provenance: The Property from an East Coast Collection
Phillips, New York, June 8, 1996 (lot 184)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
