    Description

    Sikhote-Alin Meteorite Slice
    Iron, Coarse Octahedrite - IIAB
    Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time

This Lot is a polished slice of Sikhote-Alin that, surprisingly, has not been etched. The silvery luster of the sawn and ground faces is interrupted in a few places by small inclusions of a metallic bronze appearance. They are presumably: Troilite, but other minerals are also possible. This slice is highly fractured from entry/impact stresses, and the fractures have been reinforced with a resin of some sort, which fluoresces nicely under 405 nm illumination. Traces of the fusion crust are visible in selected places, under a coat of the same resin.
    Overall Measurements: 5.9 x 4.9 x 0.1 inches (15.1 x 12.4 x 0.3 cm), weighs 243 (8.57 oz.)
    Offered at no reserve.
