    Sikhote-Alin Meteorite "Shrapnel"
    Iron, Coarse Octahedrite - IIAB
    Maritime Territory, Siberia, Russia - (46°09'36"N, 134° 39'12"E)
Witnessed Fall: 12 February 1947 10:30 am local time

This piece of "shrapnel" from the Sikhote-Alin meteorite fall which was, at the time, the most widely witnessed fall to date in history, has a very aesthetic flame shape. The fine example features a sharp edging all around its metallic mass and exhibits layers and folds of torn metal evidencing the violent fragmentation which was associated with the meteoric impact. At almost one full kilogram in weight, this specimen has both size and character going for it. An unusually big piece of "shrapnel" from the famous locality, this mass is visibly exceptional from both sides with lots of depth and sublime form.
    Overall Measurements: 6.61 x 2.70 x 1.53 inches (16.80 x 6.85 x 3.89 cm), weighs 963 grams

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
