Sikhote-Alin Meteorite - Complete Individual Meteorite from the Largest Meteorite Shower since the Dawn of Time
    Iron, coarse octahedrite
    Martitime Territory, Siberia

The largest meteorite shower of the last several thousand years occurred on February 12, 1947 in Siberia, and this select representation is from that very event. The Sikhote-Alin "fireball" terrified the local populace...from a distance of more than fifty miles it appeared the sky was on fire! Craters were created, trees were impaled, yet, miraculously, no one was injured as the impact area was unpopulated. There are two distinct types of Sikhote-Alin: shrapnel-like fragments resulting from the low-altitude explosion of a multi-ton mass and the more sought-after smooth individuals, like the current offering featuring sculpting and abundant regmaglypts (thumbprints) as the result of this meteorite's solitary descent through Earth's atmosphere. This highly articulated, palm-sized specimen displays the finest attributes of complete Sikhote-Alin meteorites. Scores of thumbprints cover the surface, and a muted, platinum patina blankets the exterior surface.
    Overall Measurements: 2.8 x 2.3 x 1.8 inches (7.0 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm), weighs 423.5 gm (14.93 oz.)
