DescriptionSculptural Gibeon Meteorite
Iron, fine octahedrite - IVA
Great Nama Land, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Thousands of years ago, an enormous Iron mass slammed into Earth's upper atmosphere, raining down on the edge of Africa's Kalahari Desert. Indigenous tribesmen found this Meteorite with the aid of a metal detector. Engagingly sculptural, this Iron mass originates from the asteroid belt between Jupiter and Mars, and exhibits some of the best attributes of any Iron Meteorite. With a bright shimmering patina, this select specimen is from the Macovich Collection of Meteorites - the foremost collection of aesthetic Iron Meteorites in the world.
