    Description

    Saint-Aubin Meteorite Slice
    Iron, IIIAB
    Champagne-Ardenne, France - (48° 29'N, 3° 35'E)
    Found: 1968

There are many things to like about this superlative specimen of a relatively obscure meteorite. From the humble beginnings of being discovered by farmers plowing a field, in France, this Saint-Aubin has incredible attributes. The exquisite etching and stabilization resulted in a shiny metallic irregular slice with an incredibly brilliant Widmanstätten pattern on both sides of the unique shape. Numerous and uncommon Troilite inclusions add a further dimension to this already superlative example but it may just be the hole in this meteorite slab that is the most prominent of its features! An inherent rarity of any meteorite with a hole, coupled with the other key characteristics of this offering, make this a truly uncommon specimen. The visual aesthetics are obviously off the charts, but the nuances also make it unusual, unbelievable and unparalleled. This Iron weighs a significant 1,088 grams, making it not only attractive but also large and impressive. The irregular free-form tapers across its solid and heavy form and is bordered by a rugged rind. There are minor patches of slight exfoliation near the periphery. This is special for numerous reasons, and Saint-Aubin is, after all, the true Champagne of French meteorites.
    Overall Measurements: 7.64 x 5.51 x 0.58 inches (19.40 x 14.00 x 1.48 cm), weighs 1,088 grams
