Description
"Classic" Irons
Odessa Meteorite End Cut "The Perez Iron"Iron, IAB-MG
Ector County, Texas, USA - (31° 43'N, 102° 24'W)
Found: 1922
A most interesting meteorite with an even more intriguing backstory, this end cut of Odessa Meteorite known as "The Perez Iron" boasts an incredible tale. Once thought to have been a new meteorite found by the Perez family of Texas in the 1970s, Geoff Notkin's company, Aerolite Meteorites, identified this as transported Odessa material. The Main Mass was returned to the family, and this offering is believed to be the only available piece. Accompanied by an Aerolite label, this specimen weighing 261 grams has an impressive concave exterior, but it is the etched display face complete with spectacular Troilite inclusion that makes this such a special and collectible object. The crater in West Texas is one of only three impact craters in the Lone Star State, making pieces of Odessa even more prized by serious meteorite collectors.
Measurements: 3.56 x 1.98 x 0.70 inches (9.05 x 5.02 x 1.77 cm), weighs 261.4 grams
Provenance: The Geoff Notkin Collection
