Description
Muonionalusta Meteorite Slice - 302.5 GramsIron, IVA
Norrbottens, Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E)
Found: 1906
The story of the Muonionalusta Meteorite is one of the most compelling of all meteoritics. An arctic meteorite, the Iron, IVA, fell in Scandinavia west of the border of Finland and Sweden, where it was first found in 1906 by children! The fine octahedrite is considered one of the oldest of all the known meteorites dating back some 4.6 billion years and the oldest discovered meteorite on Earth dating back to a fall likely about a million years ago. This spectacular thin slice weighing 302.5 grams has a veritable "laundry list" of superlative attributes. The artistically shaped irregular slab contains an incredible pair of large and rare Troilite inclusions which contrast nicely against the lighter metallic matrix that displays an overwhelming and intricate Widmanstätten pattering. This highly collectible impactful slab also came from a mass that was a personal find by the meteorite hunter consignor.
Measurements: 6.34 x 5.98 x 0.09 inches (16.10 x 15.20 x 0.24 cm), weighs 302.5 grams
