DescriptionMuonionalusta Meteorite Cube
Northern Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E)
A difference of an inch or two may not seem like much, but the exponential size difference in a cube by what may seem an insignificant amount can be extremely substantial. This imperfect cube, just about 3 inches (7.62 cm) on each edge, is huge by most standards, for the variety. With a rather stout weight of 7.56 pounds (3.43 kg), the point is clear as this block of space rock is rather monstrous. Each of the massive faces exhibit an intense Widmanstätten patterning, diagnostic of many iron meteorites. The example is comprised of Muonionalusta meteorite, which fell in present-day Sweden during prehistoric times - and so long ago that it may be the oldest known meteorite! This cube is a superlative example for size alone, but the complex faces, the finish of the metallic form, and the sheer aesthetics of this make it top notch.
Overall Measurements: 3.09 x 2.98 x 2.99 inches (7.84 x 7.56 x 7.59 cm), weighs 3.43 kilograms (7.56 pounds)
