Description

Muonionalusta Meteorite Blade "Sword"
Muonionalusta - Iron fine octahedrite - (IVA)
Northern Sweden - (67° 48'N, 23° 6'E)

Modeled in the style of a Danish dagger, this unique decorative piece features an etched and tapered blade hewn from a piece of the amazing Muonionalusta Meteorite. The blade measures 7.87 x 0.9 x 0.1 inches (20 x 2.3 x 0.26 cm) and exhibits the spectacular Widmanstätten patterning found deep inside Iron octahedrite meteorites. To achieve this appearance the Muonionalusta Meteorite must be cut down exposing the Kamacite and Taenite banding. The blade has two finger sized indentations near the cross guard to help guide the dagger during thrusting as this type of dagger would of traditionally been carried as a sidearm in battle and used in close quarters. The sterling silver hilt is comprised of a spade shaped pommel with a nonspecific crest. The pommel helps to balance the dagger. The grip has a "chainmail" appearance which is coil wrapped. The cross-guard curves towards the blade and is very sharp as well as accented by an elaborate rain guard (chappe). Because this is a decorative dagger, the edges are not sharp, but the point definitely is! The blade is further protected by an ornate custom hard metal scabbard, which is lined with rubber. This dagger can be used to re-create scenes from Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, but please be careful as it is a real weapon. The piece is in excellent condition and comes with a label attesting to the Meteorite's authenticity.
Overall Measurements: 13.58 x 5.91 x 0.91 inches (34.5 x 15 x 2.3 cm)
