    Iron, IIIAB - Fine Octahedrite
Altay Territory, Slavgorod region, Yarov, Russia (52°55.78'N, 78°35.34'E)

Farmers are some of the best friends that meteorite researchers can have as has been proven again by the single mass that was found in 1991 by a Russian farmer plowing virgin ground. That chunk was later identified as a Type IIIAB Iron Meteorite, by the Vernadsky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry. Of the original 10.7 Kg mass, a little over 2 Kg has been deposited with Vernadsky as a reference specimen and the rest is privately held. The 158 gram complete slice offered here is part of that private owner's collection. It has been polished and etched to show the fine Kamacite bandwidth of 0.2-1 mm and there is no visible fusion crust. Accompanying it is a replica casting of the original mass that looks very realistic down to the reddish-brown color of the oxidation layer.
    Overall Measurements: 5.5 x 4.5 x 0.10 inches (13.97 x 11.43 x 0.25 cm), weighs 158 gm (5.57 oz.)
    Offered at no reserve.
