    Meteorites atop Smithed Copper Sculpture
    Artist: James Ivy

This latest one-of-a-kind sculpture by artist James Ivy features three large Campo Del Cielo Meteorites as the focus of this unique representation of a "bolide" entering the earth's atmosphere at over 150,000 miles per hour. Hand-forged 18-gauge copper has been heat treated to bring out the naturally-occurring brilliant colors and graphically represents the atmospheric "disturbances" that were caused by these Meteorites as they were hurling towards earth. The three Meteorites within this sculpture are removable - allowing for an interactive experience. Campo Del Cielo ("Valley of the Sky") was the site of this famous Meteorite impact in Gran Chaco, Argentina an astonishing 4,000 to 5,000 years ago. The first recorded report of the Campo Del Cielo Meteorite was written by a team of Spanish explorers in 1576 - although craters containing Iron "masses" were well-known to the aboriginal inhabitants of the region by that time. This popular Meteorite, classified as Iron, coarse octahedrite - IAB-MG, is represented in many major institutions and collections throughout the world. This custom work of art by artist James Ivy has really captured the motion, energy, and significance of this amazing and historical extra-worldly event. The copper backing of the sculpture has been fitted for wall hanging to ensure proper display of the piece.
