Maslyanino Meteorite Slice
Iron - IAB Complex
Novosibirsk Region, Russia - (54° 20'N, 84°12'E)
Pieces of the silicated fine octahedrite known as the Maslyanino
Meteorite were first collected from a wheat field in 1992. Slice
examples often have a unique and compelling pattern of various
shapes and sizes of grainy, steely brown blebs of color on a shiny
metallic surface. This small and irregular shaped piece weighing
just 69 grams has a polished side and cut, but dull, back which
still exhibits a pattern of odd shapes and muted colors in this
thin version of the metallic material featuring silicate
inclusions. A nice representative piece of the Maslyanino
Meteorite, this little slab makes a rather fine study sample.
Overall Measurements: 3.54 x 2.95 x 0.10 inches (9.00 x 7.50 x
0.26 cm), weighs 68 gm (2.39 oz.)
[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
