Description
Henbury MeteoriteIron, IIIAB
Northern Territory, Australia - (24° 34'S, 133° 10'E)
Found: 1931
The combination of color, texture, and shape makes this meteorite very appealing, and the considerable weight of 1.6 kilograms (3.5 pounds) only ups the ante on this specimen. The exquisite orangey patina is a telltale sign that this material is from Australia and, in this case, represents the Henbury variety of meteorites. First found in 1931, this Iron IIAB type is highly prized among collectors, and this superlative offering confirms why. The more convex side is replete with numerous crater-like indentations providing an added dimension for this extraterrestrial rock. The ideal size for a collection specimen, this two-toned piece is visually dramatic and simply beautiful. This is a consummate example of the Henbury Meteorite.
Measurements: 4.80 x 3.35 x 2.37 inches (12.19 x 8.52 x 6.02 cm), weighs 1,553.2 grams
