One very intriguing fact about this specimen is that it has been in Geoff Notkin's collection for nearly 25 years, giving it the standing of being one of his earliest acquisitions in terms of meteorites. This piece of Gibeon weighs 871 grams (1.9 pounds) and is a highly sculptural piece with natural patina. Of course, an obvious attribute is that this representation exhibits the "pyramid-like" aspect sometimes shown by this important iron from the Namib Desert. The rustic form rests securely without need of a base, and a few variations in hue over its generally brownish surface add further contrast to the visually-appealing rock form space. Deep, scalloped indentations, characteristic of Gibeon, make this a really superb specimen. Such material has become less prevalent in the market in recent years, and the medium octahedrite will display the coveted Widmanstätten pattern when cut and etched. Most Gibeons are angular like this fine example.
