Description

Gibeon Meteorite - 4,620.4 Grams
Iron, IVA
Namaland, Namibia - (25° 30'S, 18° 0'E)
Found: 1836

In terms of the popularity, collectability, and natural artistry of the major Iron meteorites, Gibeon stands as a top variety well known to serious collectors and novice enthusiasts alike. First found, as recorded, in 1836, metals from the IVA had been used by the local Nama people to make tools previously to that discovery date. This highly sculptural example, weighing a robust 4.6 kilograms (10.1 pounds), this offering boasts a flared shape, a significant scoop cratering, a nice luster, and substantial 'scalloped' regmaglypts. A custom striped wooden base with beveled edging will hold the heavy Iron meteorite in its place, courtesy of two indentations that hold contact points on this metallic specimen. A brass plaque is affixed to the surface of the base with "GIBEON METEORITE" imprinted in black. This is one visually stunning Gibeon of ideal size and form. Some crystallization is visible on one exposed face of the meteorite as an added bonus to this most collectible Gibeon.
Measurements: 7.87 x 4.13 x 3.54 inches (20.00 x 10.50 x 9.00 cm), weighs 4,620.4 grams

Provenance: Private Central California Collection
