    Dronino Meteorite Slice
    Ryazan Dist., Russia (54° 44' 48"N, 41° 25' 18"E)
    Found: July 2000

The Dronino Meteorite that was found in Russia in July 2000 had a total mass of 88 pounds (40 kg). It is estimated that the fall occurred centuries earlier, likely before settlers arrived in the Ryazan Oblast region in 1200. Classified as an Ataxite, it is an Iron Meteorite, of which most of the meteoritic Iron is Kamacite with minor amounts of Taenite. The mirrored surface is quite bright, and the shine is very dramatic. The polished faces on both sides are bisected by a riverine line that essentially splits this specimen in half. The sides are dotted with roundish flecks of mauve-orange coloration. This slice weighing 210 grams is shaped like the state of South Carolina. The surface has an extremely subtle brushed appearance when viewed from a specific angle, likely the result of polishing the surfaces.
    Overall Measurements: 5.51 x 4.27 x 0.11 inches (14.00 x 10.85 x 0.29 cm), weighs 210 gm (7.41 oz.)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
