Description

Chinga Meteorite
Iron-ung
Russia
Found: 1913

Originally discovered by Gold diggers in Russia, the Chinga Meteorite is a treasure in its own right. The Iron Meteorite is classified as an Ataxite structurally and is a rare variety. This most unique example is impressive for the size and form, but it is the polished window on the end of the peninsular extension that makes this such an aesthetic specimen. The smallish cut and polished section reveals a consistent metallic surface representing the internal composition of this most unusual piece. The vast majority of the rutty exterior is rough and textural with a pleasant rust orange patina over a rocky brownish color. The mirror window evidences that the sizable piece weighing over 6 pounds (2.7 kg) was cut and polished, but the specimen in general is essentially a complete individual. This is simply one very cool Meteorite.
Overall Measurements: 8.54 x 3.78 x 1.63 inches (21.70 x 9.60 x 4.13 cm), weighs 6.17 lbs (2.8 kg.)

[Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
