Description

Campo Del Cielo on Artisanal Stand
Iron, coarse octahedrite
Gran Chaco, Argentina

An attractive, complete Iron Meteorite from the Campo del Cielo strewn field in Argentina. This Meteorite fell to Earth approximately 5,600 years ago. During its flight, a rare natural hole was formed, possibly when a soft iron sulfide nodule ablated away. A joint project between Aerolite Meteorites and noted Arizona sculptor Dante Fraboni, this piece named "Voyage de Fer" (The Iron Journey) is a melding of science and fine art. The one-of-a-kind Iron armature was custom made by Dante specifically for this piece. Less than 1 in 1,000 Iron Meteorites display natural holes, so this piece is a unique marvel of science as well as a unique work of art. The impressive Meteorite rests gently in the cradle base and is easily detachable. The Meteorite was not altered or marred in any way, but, rather, the stand was carefully crafted to fit and feature its shape.
Overall Measurements: 30 x 10.75 x 10.5 inches (76.2 x 27.3 x 12.7 cm), weighs 12.25 kg (27 lbs.)
