DescriptionCampo del Cielo Meteorite
Some superlative specimens are transcendent as to their nature and presented in such a way as to make them singular in their significance. That is the case with this incredible meteorite, on a perfect mounting. A 122.72 kilograms (270 lbs) spectacular, complete individual Campo del Cielo meteorite resides atop an impressive three-prong artistic metal armature secured to a wooden block base. The massive meteorite slides into the cradle made by the three partially converging metal arms, which are locked in place by an attached metal ring. A custom acrylic rectangular box goes over the top securing the specimen from the elements and keeping it free from dust or damage. This overall presentation is extremely elegant to allow for a very large and, essentially, "unwieldly" rock to be integrated as the focal point into any décor then showcased as a museum quality Natural History specimen. This meteorite is a classic representation of Campo del Cielo exhibiting a general dark brownish coloration over its uneven surface. Silvery metallic highlights permeate the surface giving it an added dimension, and regmaglypt "thumbprints" are visible across the enormous space rock. As with most Campo del Cielo examples, portions of the surface have a rusty "patina" and do evidence minor iron oxide deterioration as such specimens do require treatments regularly to ensure stability as iron can, of course, and does naturally rust when exposed to oxygen over time.
