DescriptionCampo del Cielo Meteorite
Iron, coarse octahedrite
Gran Chaco, Argentina
At nearly 80 pounds (36.4 kg), there is no question the size of this truly massive Meteorite is its most telling feature, but the large and patina rust-stained Campo del Cielo has the intricate and rough surface of smaller, typically more aesthetic specimens. This monster example is without question huge, but the orangey and dark brown coarse, octahedrite is visually compelling as well. With its museum size, this gigantic example is a conversation-starter, as much for its representative quality as for its sheer magnitude. Superlatives come easy for such a colossal piece, but the seemingly stable "Campo" is very good looking in terms of major Iron Meteorites. This one requires care in handling simply due to its weight but not its fragility!
Overall Measurements: 11.02 x 9.84 x 5.51 inches (28.00 x 25.00 x 14.00 cm), weighs 79.09 lbs (35.87 kg.)
