A very large and impressive meteorite weighing 2,488.3 grams (5.5 pounds), this Campo del Cielo is the personal favorite of Geoff Notkin out of his entire Meteorites with Holes collection and one of his very earliest acquisitions. This wonderfully clean and cratered specimen is exceptional, especially for Campo material, and this meteorite resided in Notkin's collection for some 25 years. Covered with regmaglypts and boasting an amazing texture and coloration, the piece also features a rare natural hole in one of the larger regmaglypts. This unique characteristic always made Notkin think of an octopus, so this is not only an uncommon meteorite with a hole, but it is also a specimen with a zoomorphic aspect. The combination of size, shape, and aesthetics really does make this a tremendous sample of the classic iron from Argentina.
