Description

Campo del Cielo Meteorite
Iron, IAB-MG
Chaco, Argentina - (27° 28'S, 60° 35'W)
Found: 1576

From the famed fall, which produced numerous craters and a massive strewn field, this superlative piece of Campo del Cielo Meteorite truly has it all. Weighing some 6 kilograms (13 pounds), the specimen is quite large and exhibits wonderful "thumbprint" regmaglypts over its outstanding textural surface. With attractive grayish coloration and obvious stability, this example stands as a great representation of the Iron, which is so well known to collectors. While technically first discovered in 1576, native peoples were known to have used the metal for weapons from the fall well before that discovery. Of course, it now is believed the actual Meteorite likely fell some 4,000+ years ago. There has been a lot of Campo pieces on the market over the years, but many are "rusters," and few have the combination of size, quality, and aesthetics as this superb piece. This is one absolutely incredible display specimen, with so much about it to like. Every Meteorite collection that includes finer Irons needs a good Campo - and this one is great!!
Measurements: 7.87 x 5.71 x 3.94 inches (20.00 x 14.50 x 10.00 cm), weighs 6.123 kilograms (13.49 pounds)
