Originally hoping to extend the known boundaries of the Campo del Cielo strewnfield, a meteorite hunter explored far into Formosa Province in Argentina, where he discovered a small and previously unknown meteorite strewnfield 200 miles (322 kilometers) north of Campo del Cielo and near the town of Las Palmas ("The Palms.") The zone produced about 300 kg (661 pounds) of small, beautifully regmaglypted, highly sculptural iron meteorites. Noted meteorite enthusiasts have asserted that these "new" meteorites are distinct from the Campo del Cielo; however, there has been no new classification. This particular example of the Las Palmas material exhibits a gorgeous dark hue and highly aesthetic form that makes this a rather desirable offering weighing over 154 grams.
